Shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors. Be active outdoors when air quality is better. No burning is allowed until further notice.

APCB Has a New Way of Reporting Pollen

The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Bureau (APCB) made some changes to the way local pollen and mold spore numbers are reported.  The APCB will follow the American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology’s National Allergy Bureau™ (NAB™) pollen and mold spore scale.  This will provide residents with local information that is consistent with nationally reported pollen and mold spore numbers.

Pollen counts will be divided into three categories: tree pollen, weed pollen, and grass pollen.  Each category follows a different scale ranging from low to very high. The scale is provided below, as well as at the bottom of the Air Quality Report, for reference purposes.  The Air Quality Report will include the amount, level, and top three (3) types of pollen in each category for that day.  The daily mold spore count will also follow the NAB™ scale.

The APCB is not a participant of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology’s National Allergy Bureau™ (NAB™).  This means that the numbers are not officially recorded with the NAB™, but the report will continue to provide the same pollen and mold spore information as always.

Please contact the APCB if you have any questions or would like more information at 423.643.5970 or online through the Contact Us tab at apcb.org.
